Competition showcased five different disciplines

July 13, 2022

BIG RAPIDS — The second day of the Mecosta County Fair’s Horse and Pony shows did not disappoint.

On an afternoon of mixed weather Wednesday, July 13, riders took to the saddle again to demonstrate skills in jumping, huntseat, saddleseat, English, and gymkhana disciplines.

As the sun poked out from the clouds, riders practiced patterns and steps as they were graded by a judge in the center of the ring. Riders were challenged to complete a series of jumps and turns around the track while maintaining their posture atop the giant animals.

The third day of competition at 9 a.m. July 14 is set to include a trail and reining challenges for competitors.
