The martial arts superstar will be galloping onto movie screens April 7.

More than two decades after martial arts superstar Jackie Chan teamed with Owen Wilson for the seriocomic Westerns Shanghai Noon and Shanghai Knights, he’s back in the saddle for Ride On, a contemporary action comedy set for an April 7 North American theatrical release.

Directed by Larry Yang, the Chinese-produced, English-subtitled movie has Chan cast as Luo, a washed-up stuntman who manages — with a little help from Red Hare, his beloved stunt horse — to ward off two debt collectors during an acrobatic confrontation. After video of the clash goes viral on social media, the debt collectors press their luck by returning to seek revenge — forcing Luo and Red Hare to engage in a series of high-risk activities that outdo even the most daring acts from their glory days.

Chan noted in a prepared statement that Ride On marks a return to his roots as a stunt man — and, eventually, lead player — in Hong Kong action flicks. “In the heyday of kung fu movies,” he said, “you fought for real, you risked your life by really racing a fast car and really riding a wild horse. The spirit was passed on from one generation to the next.”

“The story of a man and a horse depending on each other is really interesting,” added director Yang. “Moreover, the character Jackie plays this time is more down-to-earth than we’ve seen in his previous movies.”

Here is a trailer for Ride On.
