Whether you want to follow the footsteps of Zara Phillips, the Queen’s granddaughter and former Olympic equestrian’s footsteps, or you simply want to spend some time bonding with the world’s most majestic animal, horseback riding has been long loved around the world.
While horseback riding may have begun as a means of transportation, it has since evolved into a recreational activity and sport which tests the rider’s endurance, reining and vaulting skills.
If you’re thinking about taking up horseback riding as a hobby, there’s no time like the present. From public riding schools to private horse riding clubs, we list out the best horse riding schools in Hong Kong.

With three public riding schools in Tuen Mun, Pok Fu Lam and Lei Yue Mun, The Hong Kong Jockey Club offers riding lessons for all ages in both Cantonese and English. Group classes of 5-6 students are first colour-coded, then grouped according to their horse riding level.
The Pok Fu Lam location is by far one of the most popular riding schools in Hong Kong due to its convenient location. Built in 1978, this riding facility spans over 2,000 m², with one outdoor and indoor floodlit sand arena, thirty-three barn style boxes in the two-storey stable.
If you’re willing to travel to the New Territories, The Tuen Mun Public Riding School is worth the extra effort. Spanning over an area of 40,000m², the school is part of LCSD Tuen Mun Recreation Sports Centre, which also provides other activities such as archery, golf driving range and rope courses for the public.
Located on the eastern side of Hong Kong Island, Lei Yue Mun Public Riding School takes up 4,000m² of space on the hillside. While visitors have noted that this location is on the smaller size, the facilities and trainers here are on par with the other locations.
Joining & Riding Fee: Students have to fill in an online enrollment form for proper age verification checks and class allocation according to the applicant’s selected time slot and riding experience. Students aged 6-14 will be allocated to pony lessons priced at HK$320 per 45 minute lesson. Horse riding lessons for students aged 15 or above is priced at HK$395 per one hour lesson.

Recognised by the British Horse Society as a certified Riding and Livery Centre, Beas River Equestrian Centre (BRRS) is a members-only facility from the Hong Kong Jockey Club. Offering private and group lessons to riders of all ages, BRRS also offers career exam training as well as riding activities for children.
Joining & Riding Fee: The entrance fee for admission to a racing membership at the Hong Kong Jockey Club will cost you HK$150,000. Racing members will be able to access all racecourse facilities as well as the Beijing Clubhouse. Separate enrollment and payment are needed for riding lessons at BRRS.

Located by the sea, Clearwater Bay Equestrian Centre is a private horse riding centre which offers classes to both members and non-members in Hong Kong. Priding themselves in providing the best care for horses, the centre provides two hours of training per week for stable staff, developing their skill and ensuring that the horses receive the best care possible.
With an extensive variety of facilities available at Clearwater Bay Equestrian Centre, classes will take place at the stable area which includes a covered arena, large outdoor jumping arena and pony arena. Other facilities include paddock areas, stables, round pen, tack rooms and wash down bays.
Joining & Riding Fee: Non-member riding classes start at HK$645 for a private, 30-minute class, while group classes will cost you HK$565 per 60-minute class. To become a regular member at Clearwater Bay Equestrian Centre, guests can join the waitlist by emailing the centre. Different memberships are available for purchase including the livery membership, life membership and debentures.

Whether you’re a beginner or a horse riding professional, Lo Wu Saddle Club’s wide range of training programs and horses will help you further your equestrian skills. Located near Sheung Shui in the New Territories, Lo Wu Saddle Club has a wide range of facilities including a large, competition-sized floodlit sand paddock, a second flat sand training paddock and a grass turnout field.
Joining & Riding Fee: Lesson fees for non-members start at HK$480 for 45-minute group classes. Private lessons start at HK$900 for 45-minute classes. Those who wish to become members at Lo Wu Saddle Club will have to pay a joining fee of HK$4,200, a monthly subscription fee of HK$350 and a riding deposit of HK$4,500.

International Riding Centre is one of the largest horse riding facilities in Hong Kong. With an area of 160,000 square feet, the private centre offers five large sand paddocks for horse riding. Home to 36 horses, International Riding Centre houses ex-racehorses, dressage horses and ponies who are all specially trained for riding.
Joining & Riding Fee: Private 30-minute horse riding lessons on weekdays costs HK$600 per person.

Established in 1994, Tai Tong Riding Club is located within Tai Tong Organic EcoPark. Offering experience classes where groups of 20 or above can learn the basics of horse riding, visit the stable, and watch the instructor demonstrate how to feed and care for a horse, pay Tai Tong Riding Club a visit to get a taste of horse riding with a large group of friends.
Aside from experiential classes, the club also offers regular horse riding lessons including group children’s riding class, beginner riding class, intermediate riding class, show jumping class and private one-on-one classes.
Joining & Riding Fee: Small group classes costs HK$2400 for four 45-minute lessons, while private classes and horse hire costs HK$700 for 30 minutes.
