ARDMORE, Okla. (KXII) – The Hardy Murphy Coliseum is getting back into the saddle for the 12th annual Winter Slide horse reining show.

Around 250 horses from all over the world are going to be in Ardmore.

Event coordinator and owner, Tamra Kyle said the show is mounting up at least $20,000 in prize money and anyone wanting to mosey their way to the Hardy Murphy Coliseum can watch for free.

“The horse can do all of it’s maneuvers without being pulled or tugged and that type of stuff. It’s a little like figure skating where everyone in the circuit class is on a prescribed pattern,” said Kyle.

Competing in the pro-derby on Saturday is veteran and million dollar rider, Franco Bertolani of Texas.

Bertolani describes reining as a western discipline where riders display control of their trusty companions.

“We all perform maneuvers like sliding stops, spins and circles,” said Bertolani.

For reality TV star, Cade McCutcheon featured on the Paramount show, “Last Cowboy,” he’s been reining since he could walk.

Last year, he tied for first place on the TV show, and won around $900,000 from competing all over the country and became a million dollar rider at 19 years old.

“I’ve grown up around them, and I can’t picture myself without horses,” said Cade McCutcheon.

Kyle said the shows start up at 8 a.m. in the coliseum, and will gallop it’s way out of Carter County on Sunday.
