Saddle up with a giddy up to the Comstock August 24-25, as the rodeo returns to Virginia City bringing with it a full force of western and cultural heritage beginning with a longhorn cattle drive right down the center of town. The 4th annual Virginia City Rodeo and Fiesta del Charro features a mutton bustin’ tournament, classic bull fighting, traditional rodeo events and a celebration of Hispanic heritage.
The rodeo is presented by Dolan Auto Group and by the Flying U Rodeo and the legendary Cotton Rosser, known for the Reno Rodeo and other large-scale regional events.
Saturday, Aug. 24 at 12 p.m. brings the longhorns to town for parade led by the stars of show as they head to the Virginia City Arena and Fairgrounds for the main event. Get up close and personal with these massive animals, magnificent horses and talented cowboys. The Longhorn Cattle Drive and Rodeo Parade is a free event before the Virginia City Rodeo & Fiesta del Charro.
The Fiesta del Charro features Latin traditions such as a charro vs bucking horse completion, charro trick roping and escarmusas, an all-female Mexican drill team. Other highlights include extreme team bull fighting, bronc riding and even a children’s coin dig.
